Making the Perfect Smile Affordable

Making the Perfect Smile Affordable

The truth: It’s expensive

I don’t know about you, but I was not born with naturally straight teeth, which is definitely the norm. But add in the fact that I sucked my thumb for a very long time, my teeth were quite out of place.  Both genetics (which are beyond our control), as well as physical habits play a role in our original oral health.  But we can take control over our oral health.  Wearing braces for a few years is the best way to get a straight, healthy smile.  But let’s be real, the cost tends to get in the way.  Traditionally, braces can run from anywhere between $3,000 to $7,000, and if you have multiple kids that need braces, that can really put a dent in your savings account.

The Truth: It’s Important

Your, or your child’s, oral health is too important though not to get proper orthodontic care.  Crooked teeth are the breeding ground for plaque caused by leftover food particles that have become stuck because of the inability to clean and brush properly. This quickly leads to tooth decay and gum disease.

If the obstacle to providing orthodontic treatment is the funding, don’t give up hope.  There are options for you that can make braces more affordable.  And at Hough Orthodontics, we work hard to help make it as affordable as possible for you and/or your family.

Tips to Make Orthodontic Treatment Affordable

  1. Set up a Health Savings Account or a Flex Spending Account with your employer.
If you don’t already have one, talk to your employer or your bank about setting up a health savings account or flex spending plan. By using your money to pay for the braces, you won’t be taxed on the amount spent on the treatment, which will save you money.
  2. 0% In House Financing
Take advantage of our 0% In House Financing. An initial payment is due at the beginning of treatment, with monthly payments set up for the duration of treatment to make the cost more manageable for your budget.
  3. Dental Insurance Coverage
Even if you are pretty sure that your dental insurance does not cover much when it comes to the cost of braces, it is definitely worth double checking. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you find. Any little bit helps in the affordability of braces. At Dr. Hough’s office, we will submit the expenses to your insurance for you, so you don’t have to worry about that factor either!
  4. Ask about special discounts.
Yes, you read that correctly.  I am sitting here telling you to ask about discounts!  The office might be running a special promotion. Or a discount for paying in full at the beginning of treatment. If you are starting multiple family members in treatment at the same time or are a member of the clergy, military, police or fire department, there may be discounts available. Just ask.
  5. Wear those Retainers
After the expense of orthodontic treatment, and the time put in for that amazing straight smile, make sure to wear those retainers.  No one wants the expense of orthodontic treatment for a second time!

The Quest for Affordable Braces

Without a doubt, when your dentist recommends braces for you or your child, cost is usually the first thing that pops into your head.  Braces have a bad reputation for being too expensive, but at Hough Orthodontics we work hard to make your dreams for straight teeth affordable.
